The ‘Loons’ head for the Ayrshire coast on Saturday to take on one of the favourites for the Ladbrokes League 1 title, ian McCall’s Ayr United.
Relegated after a one season stint in the Championship, the ‘Honest Men’ have made an excellent start to the new campaign which saw them make the brave decision to re-introduce full-time football back at the club.
They topped their group in the Betfred Cup with a one hundred per cent record which included a derby victory over Premiership neighbours Kilmarnock prior to winning their opening league joust away to Albion Rovers 5-1 last weekend.
One of half a dozen new faces in their ranks Craig Moore signed from Motherwell netted a hat-trick in that victory.
That unbeaten run did however come to an end at Easter Road on Tuesday past.
Manager Gary Bollan and his players travel in good heart however after a highly encouraging victory over Airdrieonians last Saturday.
It was an excellent team performance against a side who finished in a play-off spot last term and certainly banished many of the Betfred Cup ‘blues.’
The ‘Loons’ starting line up at Somerset Park is unlikely to show many, if any changes from last Saturday, although Dylan Easton, Andy Munro and Scott McBride in particular will come into contention.
There are certainly no fresh injury worries, while attempts to bolster the squad content ahead of the 31st August deadline continue.
Saturday’s fixture has the usual 3p.m. kick-off and admission charges are £14 for adults, £7 concessions, with under 12’s £2.
Lanarkshire based official David Lowe who handled three or four Athies games last term is the man in the middle.
