After a hectic pre-season of training sessions, four friendly fixtures followed by two highly competitive but also entertaining clashes in the Premier Sports Cup, the Forfar Athletic management team and players will get some ‘down time’ this coming weekend when they are the odd club out in the five team Group ‘D’ section in what many still fondly regard as the League Cup. This Saturday’s clashes in our section see St. Mirren entertain Annan Athletic, while Arbroath head to Ayr.
For the ‘Loons’ there is no point in saying otherwise two very tough ties remain during the course of next week in the opening cup competition of the season against two William Hill Championship sides.
First up on the ‘menu’ is a trip on Tuesday evening to Somerset Park, our first since February of 2016 to meet Scott Brown’s full-time Ayr United outfit. The ‘Honest Men’ finished in the Championship play-off spots last term and certainly it would appear they have ambitions to challenge relegated Ross County and St. Johnstone for the title this time round. Hopefully a few Forfar Athletic ‘diehards’ will make the lengthy midweek jaunt to the Ayrshire coast on Tuesday evening and the home side have confirmed that visiting supporters will be accommodated in the West Stand section.

Onwards to Saturday the 26th of the month and a ‘juicy’ home local derby against our neighbours Arbroath who will arrive at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park as of course reigning League1 champions, no doubt relishing what for them has been a swift return to the second tier of Scottish football.
At this juncture it is impossible to forecast whether the game will have any meaning to it as far as qualification for the second stage of the Premier Sports Cup is concerned, but it is a local derby never forget with old rivalries resuming and bragging rights without doubt of significance to supporters of both the ‘Loons’ and the ‘Lichties.’ Hopefully this alone will be attraction to all, with the atmosphere likely to be enhanced on the day by those attending ‘Ladies Day’ within the hospitality complex!
Supporters of both sides should note at this early stage, the following admission arrangements etc.
David McGregor Stand
Adults £16
Concessions (65 & over) £10
Under 17’s £5
Terracing
Adults £15
Concessions (65 & over) £10
Under 17’s £5
Supporters of both sides should note that tickets can be purchased in advance online and this is the preferred option to allow for easier access at - https://forfarathletic.ticketco.events/uk/en/m/e/forfar_athletic_v_arbroath_0725

To all ‘Loons’ supporters, enjoy the ‘tranqulity’ of the Saturday on the horizon. Hopefully my arithmetic is ‘on the ball’ and it will be the last for a minimum of 41 weeks ahead with no match day worries!! Where would we be with our beloved ‘Loons’ in weekend action?
