Of The Loons
Thanks to a renewed enthusiasm around the club since the turn of the year in particular and also it has to be said the gravity of the situation the club found itself in, the total and average attendance for league fixtures played at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park over a season when we again had no local derbies as such showed a welcome increase on the figures over the previous three campaigns.
A total of 11,283 spectators watched the 18 home games in the William Hill League 2 campaign an average of 627. Last season the average was 566, with the figure for the previous two campaigns after the covid shutdown 500 and 474 respectively.
It is also interesting to note that in the second half of the season just ended the total figure for the last nine games was 6,165, a healthy average of 685 per game.
You have to go back to the truncated 2019/20 season for a higher average than this past term. The figure that season which ended in early March was 644, but that campaign was in League 1 and included one local derby with Montrose as well as the travelling support generated from visits by Airdrieonians, Falkirk and Raith Rovers. Similarly season 2018/19 again in League 1 saw an average of 665, Arbroath, Brechin City and Raith Rovers all making two visits to the ‘toonie’ that campaign.
The figures for the season just ended despite our final lowly placing are truly encouraging and hopefully are an omen for the new and hopefully succesful league campaign beginning in early August. Only time will tell.
