The ‘Loons’ welcome Edinburgh City to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park this Saturday afternoon in what is their penultimate game in this season’s William Hill League2.
It is a big game for the home side, a fact readily acknowledged by manager Jim Weir. The Athies go into the contest sitting in fourth place in the league standings, the final qualifying position for the end of season League1 play-offs. They also have a three point cushion over the nearest rivals Stranraer and Elgin City, following their 1-0 away win against the former last weekend.
April has been a good month for the club to date. Three ‘brilliant’ wins recorded, Jim’s own summation of the situation, against Elgin City, East Kilbride and Stranraer. However the manager stresses the importance of not wasting the hard work and commitment that has gone into securing those results both on the field of play and on the training ground, against our Capital City opponents on Saturday first. He has emphasised to the players already that the game must be approached with the same attitude as shown in recent weeks with no room whatsoever for even an ounce of complacency.
Jim also added that the home support who have backed the team superbly throughout the campaign have a vital part to play. He is hopeful that they will turn out in larger than normal numbers and even more importantly in good voice!
On the injury front Mason Munn remains side lined, while Matty Allan is a doubt following the knock that saw him replaced during the last quarter of the game at Stair Park. Jake Dolzanski is ready however to make a return to the starting line up, which is unlikely to show much change from the past couple of weeks.
The ‘Citizens’ arrive in town with the prospect of the Pyramid Play-Off against Brora Rangers to come in early May. For varying reasons Michael McIndoe has listed a fairly ‘shadow’ starting eleven in recent times, their last victory having been recorded at home to Stranraer in early March. City’s manager though has hinted that they will be back to nearer full strength for their visit to Angus.
We will not dwell on the Athies recent league record against Saturday’s opponents, safe to say that all of a ‘Loons’ persuasion will hope and trust that the tide will turn in that respect on what looks likely to be an afternoon in the sunshine at Station Park this Saturday.
The players have been well prepared as ever by Jim and his backroom staff and go into the contest in a positive but not over confident mood, a perfect twelve out of twelve for the month of April the target for all come Saturday at 3pm.
One of Scotland’s most experienced match officials Euan Anderson is the man in the middle on Saturday, his second visit of the season to Forfar.
C’mon the ‘Loons’
