Marc’s Big Day – Jim Weir Tribute
[Thursday, 25 June 2026 14:24]
Montrose will be the visitors to Station Park on Saturday first in Marc McCallum’s Testimonial match, a fitting tribute for a player just beginning his tenth season with the ‘Loons.’
The game itself will the first of a handful events to be organised by Marc’s hard working committee throughout the season ahead, watch this space for further detail.
Manager Jim Weir who himself was awarded a testimonial season when with St. Johnstone as a player hopes that Marc enjoys the events throughout the campaign in his honour and alongside his family they treasure all aspects of the year as Jim himself did.
Jim is in no doubt that it is a fully deserved recognition of Marc’s service to his hometown club. Jim commented that Marc’s consistency over the period he has been with the ‘Loons’ allied to his level of fitness as witnessed by the number of seasons he has been an ever present has been a remarkable feature of his career.
The manager mentioned in particular Marc’s outstanding performances at times week on week during Jim’s first two seasons in his earlier spell with the club, a time when he was in no doubt that the big shot stopper was the outstanding part-time goalkeeper in the SPFL. Why clubs in higher echelons did not move for Marc at the time remains a mystery to Jim to this day?
Naturally Jim and all involved at Station Park hope that Marc will continue to turn in those inspiring performances for some time yet, but first and foremost savour every minute of his big day this coming weekend.
As a wee footnote, Jim did mention that pre-season fixtures have maybe arrived on the early side for the club this time round, with a handful of players ruled out through injury, honeymoon or holiday commitments for the visit of the ‘Gable Endies.’
One of the two new faces recruited to date Aaron Arnott is one of those on the injury list but home fans will get a look at the other newcomer Adam Brown in the clash with Stewart Petrie’s side.
A reminder that the match will have a 2p.m. kick-off.
